ABOUT
ABOUT PILATES
Pilates is a strength building exercise program focusing on core strength (abdominals and back) and addressing the mind-body connection. Existing for over 80 years, Pilates utilizes over 500 different exercises that can be performed both on a mat and specialized equipment catering to a wide range of participants from elite athletes to senior adults.
The Core
Pilates focuses on training small muscles surrounding your core, particularly the abdominals, back, hips and buttocks. Achieving core strength allows for movement with stability, improved flexibility, posture and balance. It is impossible to move the limbs efficiently and with force if they are not attached to something solid and stable - your core! With Pilates, you train movements instead of individual body parts therefore enhancing body awareness.
The Mind-Body Connection
Pilates requires concentration. In others words connecting the mind with the body to increase awareness. Through body awareness you breathe correctly, develop an ease of movement and increase physical pleasure.
Practiced on a regular basis, Pilates results in a number of benefits including:
-
Increase strength and flexibility
-
Lean, toned muscles
-
Improved balance and coordination
-
Better Posture
-
Injury prevention
-
Increased lung capacity and circulation
-
Stress reduction
